Max Pothmann began to work in a Filmstudio when he was 16. Later he became a carpenter, lived in Norway for 18 months and as a photographer in Berlin. He was 22 when he put his hand on a ballet barre for the first time.

After a one-year-training at Danseværkstedet in Copenhagen he studied contemporary dance at Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen from 2002-2007.


He has worked in a wide range of fields, both artistically and in regular jobs, such as teaching, carpentry, advertising and journalism. Presently the joint venture "MP2" with Oliver Möller is working on its second dance theatre production. Max has been dancing as a freelancer in Cologne since 2009. Among others he danced for Schauspiel Køln, for Ilona Pászthy and Carmen Casagrande/Novatanz. In September 2012 he spent a 2-weeks-residency in Luxemburg, collaborating with Canadian musician Matthew Ramolo on Recording The Wind.

2013 has been dedicated to the new Dancetheatre-Production "Erben", which will be on stage from November on.
